The Meaning Behind “Drawn + Sent”

When I felt lead to truly step out in faith and begin pursuing a life of ministry as a full-time missionary I knew that I wanted to create a type of “branding” that was meaningful and Bible based. I ended up choosing the symbol of a bow and arrow as well as the tagline, “Drawn + Sent” for several reasons and I’m happy to share them with you here!

First, Psalm 127 describes children as “...arrows in the quiver of a warrior.” And in Isaiah 49:2, a prophetic word is given about the coming Christ which says, “He has made My mouth like a sharp sword; in the shadow of His hand He has hidden Me, and made Me a polished shaft (arrow); in His quiver He has hidden Me.” Here Jesus is described as an arrow that is polished and kept hidden by the Father until it’s time of deployment. If children born of men are arrows in the quiver of their earthly fathers, how much more are we who are born of God, arrows in the quiver of our heavenly Father!

Secondly, I love the individuality and singleness of the arrow. A soldier may take the same sword into battle many different times, but when an archer draws an arrow back he knows he can only fire it once. Yes, he can use another arrow after that, but when knows the supply is limited he doesn’t haphazardly fire the one before it. Every draw of the bow is intentional because that arrow only has one chance to serve its one purpose. The archer knows that the firing of one arrow can be the difference between life and death. For these very same reasons, the craftsmen of the arrow works very carefully and with great precision to make sure that each arrow is straight, sharp, and ready to be sent with accuracy in order to serve its archer well. Isn’t that a beautiful metaphor for our lives? We are each unique and crafted masterfully for a specific purpose that only we can fulfill! In the same way that an archer is thoughtful in the way he launches each arrow, so is our Archer in the way that He doesn’t carelessly send us out in a random direction to nowhere but rather, with great care and precision, launches us toward a target that He has equipped us to hit and leave a lasting impact on! Oftentimes our being sent out can mean the difference between life and death for those we’re being sent to. However, instead of being sent by a soldier trying to take lives, we’re sent by a God trying to save them!

Just as Jesus was kept hidden and polished by God for the first thirty years of His life until He was ready to be launched into His earthly ministry, God will draw each one of us to Himself to be polished and made ready to serve our specific purpose in the Earth. He will keep us hidden until we’re ready to be removed from the quiver, drawn back into the Archer’s bow, and sent into all the Earth for the glory of the One who sends us! There is only one you. You have only one life. Only one purpose. Only one God. Make sure that you remain in the quiver of your Father. And when He’s polished you, be ready to be DRAWN and SENT!
